Hi, my name is James Aleksic and I run JLA Sound and Light. I've been working in this industry from a very young age - starting off by doing the disco for my own 8th birthday party. As 'DJ Hamster' I became quite well known in the Ipswich area, doing children's birthday parties most weekends with my mum, dad and sister. This continued all the way through school, where I also helped to organise and run lots of school discos, music concerts, shows, awards nights, assemblies and so on. I then started doing these more myself, and put on many charity events - ranging from fetes through to quiz nights, concerts and variety shows. Fundraising still plays a big part in what we do, and as well as organising charity events ourselves - and we also always offer discounts on all of our services for charities and fundraising events. I then went onto college where I completed a 2 year technical theatre course which was joint run by Suffolk New College and the New Wolsey Theatre. This gained me a Distinction level UAL (University of the Arts London) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts - and more importantly gave me lots of real world experience and knowledge in the technical theatre field. This then opened up a world of possibilities, leading to me getting a casual job, and then a full time contract in the technical department at the New Wolsey Theatre. Moving on from that, I've created my business JLA Sound and Light to enable me to provide a high level service to a far wider community, and at an affordable price. I've always felt that you shouldn't have to pay through the roof to get a good service, and have carried this mindset into the business.

JLA Sound and Light was created in 2013, and allowed us to continue doing DJ Hamster's Children's Discos while also expanding into offering technical assistance and services for events. We've since done sound and lighting for local theatrical companies, as well as working in many schools (assemblies, concerts, shows, discos and even a CD recording), and have helped on many charity events as well as the ones we have organised ourselves. These include raising money for local charities such as E.A.C.H. and St. Elizabeth Hospice, as well as many national charities. We've worked in all sorts of venues, from living rooms, through to village halls, schools and up to spaces like the New Wolsey Theatre and Spa Pavilion. With a wide range of packages available to hire, and many services that we can offer - we're sure we'll be able to help you with whatever you need! Click here to have a look at some of our recent shows & events.

We're lucky to have had the opportunity to work in a wide variety of venues across Suffolk and East Anglia, ranging from village halls with DJ Hamster's Children's Discos right through to some of the area's best known theatres with full scale productions - as well as a number of schools and pretty much everything else in between!
If you're planning an event and would like inspiration of some of the venues we've worked at before, check out the map here showing quite a lot of them!
You can toggle between ones probably available for private party hire (village halls etc) and ones that aren't (theatres etc) by clicking the little icon in the top left of the map to open the sidebar.
